Author, Gretchen Reynolds of The New York Times, shares about the experiment that showed cooling down after exercises has no value when it comes to pain relief.

Gretchen shares about the study published last year in ‘The Journal of Human Kinetics‘. The study is about the 36 active adults who had volunteered to go through a strenuous program that include forward lunges while holding barbells.

The volunteers were divided into three groups. The first group performed a warm up before doing the exercise. The next group, did not perform a warm up yet cooled down after the exercise. While, the third group, did not do both the warm and cool down.

The study explains that in the following day, the group that performed the warm up were pain free. However, the group that performed the cooling down experienced muscle pains that were similar to the pain experienced by the group that did neither the warm up nor cool down.
